A graduate of New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology, Mimi Prober founded her namesake label in 2014 on four pillars of sustainability: p
reservation, farm to fiber, ethical production, and community engagement. As such, her signature collection of ruffled and pin-tucked dresses, tops, skirts, and shawls—or, as she calls them, “modern heirlooms”—crafted of organic cotton and silk, sourced from family-owned mills and woven using ancient techniques for minimal environmental impact. Prober further honors the past, as well as her zero-waste philosophy, by incorporating 18th-, 19th-, and 20th-century heritage lace into her poetic designs. Most of Prober’s pieces are hand-painted with flowers in a technique called botanical floral transfer, while others are pigmented with
bengala, a mineral-rich Japanese mud dye that eliminates the need for toxic chemicals and heat.
